5 years later and I am finally done!

Ever have a project that starts out really well, with the best of intentions but somehow morphs into the project - or in this case sweater - from hell?

I started this in late 2002 after rediscovering my love of knitting. I had done the usual scarves and such and was ready to try something a little bigger. Enter sweater with cables and bell sleeves. The back and front went quickly and with little trouble (I discovered much later that I missed a cable twist on the back) Enter January 1, 2003: I am at my grandmother figure brother's birthday party working on the first sleeve. This is were I started having trouble and contuied having it. On and off for the next 2 years I would pick up sleeve and pattern, visit the various knitters I knew and we would try and figure out the increasing. One day it just hit me, much like the acorn and Chicken Little. Got both sleeves done, put all the pieses away and promtly forgot about it until January of this year. I have put the beast all together and found a home for it far away from me. As you can see from the picture above it headed up a size to large and sleeves 4 inches or more too long. The Green Monster as I lovingly refer to now gets filed away in the failed but learning experience file of my knitting life.
On to happier projects...

Work from Material Girls

'Crazy knitted' shawl using natural colours of cotton, silk, cotton/linen blend, mohair, alpaca and linen. I embroidered berries and branches inspired by a picture I took last winter of deadly night shade. I hand dyed the yarns for it.
I love her! She is a combo of knitting, hand and needle felting. I want to make a series of her some day.

First completed project of 2008

Knit in the week between Christmas and New Years. The pattern/project is Subway Mitts from Winter 2007 Interweave Knitting Mag. These are my first pair of mitts I knitted so they are not perfect but I am happy with them and wore them to work today. Good thing too as it was mighty cold out today.
